Who the hell is Kamera? [13 Mar 2007|05:12pm]
...a guy who doesn't post here any more. Except today.

I just went down to McCarthys for one of my final visits to my favorite (and first) drinking establishments. I decided that with St. Patricks coming up on Saturday and with my drinking having been toned down a whole lot in the last year, that i'd best get in shape before the holiday. Three Pints and a Jameson have served me well. I do miss my heavy drinking days sometimes....and sometimes I don't. Anyhow, three cheers to McCarthys "1019 Court St." may it live in infamy.

Just so you all know, i am most certainly fucking insane. This is something i've known for quite awhile but I think it may be starting to show in my day to day. No worries though, i'm very comfortable with the idea.

Black Crowes Pozo [30 Apr 2006|06:26pm]
We managed to walk in the gate at the Pozo Saloon about 5min before the Black Crowes started. One of my least favorite things in the world is waiting around for bands to start (despite the fact that my ass lags when its my band that needs to start) so this was a splendid turn of events. We got over to the beer garden and didn't have to wait very long to get a few drinks which were reasonably priced and sized much to my amazement. $5 for a 20oz cup of Fat Tire would be a good deal at any bar downtown much less at a frickin concert in Pozo.

Despite a weeks worth of lousy weather (rain, overcast, grumpy clouds etc etc) it was bright and beautiful today. The venue is an outdoor theatre surrounded by hills so the scenery was nice and cozy. Much like the Greek theatre in Berkley or the Santa Barbara Bowl it was lush and green in the areas surrounding the venue, instead of a barren and boring desert.

There was no opening band and the Crowes kicked right into their set. They are an amazingly tight band and when they were actually playing songs and not just jamming they were on fire. Their keyboard player had an actual Hammond B3 which means nothing to you but its a really cool organ. And the backup singers sounded like a damn choir, very nice.

They played a solid three hour set and were managed to get in the car and on the road in less then 20min of the end of their set. Not bad for an outdoor show with that number of people.

Tell it to the radio, tell it to the television [22 Apr 2006|06:44pm]
So the whole "Beer not liquor" thing is going well. Had a knck down drag out kick ass slammin show at Sweet Springs Saloon in beautiful Los Osos last night. I got pretty juiced up on Newcastle but I managed to stay sober enough to play well (ish) and drive my ass home eventually so that was nice for a change.

Onward and upward right?

Finally [13 Apr 2006|04:34pm]
After way too damn long I have finally settled my claims from my car wreck in August of '04. Now all I have to decide is wether I hate insurance companies or lawyers more. They are both pretty rotten.

But I am glad that bit is over. Now we can pay some bills and I can beg the wife to let me buy an AC30 but I think she stick with the whole "We are saving foe a house" deal.

Such is life.

I think I am drinking myself into oblivion. Something has to give soon or i'm gona be in deep shit. Maybe giving up the hard liquor is the answer? Probably giving up drinking is the answer but we both know that isn't going to happen. 2 out of my last 3 drunken nights this week have resulted in blackouts. No good, no good at all. Something has got to change.

Endless Self Promotion [06 Apr 2006|02:39pm]
So I guess I only really use this LJ to yap about when my band is playing. I should really try to do more journaling here instead. I do still read everybodys posts almost daily, for what its worth.

Okay here is the self promotion.

Pennyjar is playing tonight at Downtown Brew in SLO. We are going on at 9pm and will play until 9:45ish. Then our buddies Holiday and the Adventure Pop Collective will play until 11:30 or so. The cover is a mere $3 and I promise it'll be a stellar show. So come on down and check it out okay?

The rare TV review [22 Mar 2006|01:42am]
Ach.

The past few years i've really enjoyed the show "The Shield" on FX. Mostly its a badass-cop story but tonight it went a but too far with its grittiness. It was the season finale and it seems like every show has to have a shocking finale anymore. This one was a bit too brutal for me. Even when Six Feet Under went off the map for an episode or two it didn't leave me feeling this dirty and horrible. I know its just a friggin TV show but even still it has left that not so great feeling in the pit of my stomach. Lordy.

Damn Downtown Brew [25 Feb 2006|10:16am]
You know being in a band in SLO is a fuckin' nightmare sometimes.

Adding shit to the fire is the fact that Downtown brew just pulled the plug on its "local bands" night that was suppossed to launch in march.

Whats up with that shit?

Pennyjar Tonight [09 Feb 2006|03:59pm]
We are playing some damn fine alt.country tonight at the Downtown Brewing Company in SLO. The show starts at 9pm with a set by Ephraim of Siko fame and then we hit the stage at 9:30ish. But then you'll want to stick around for one of the best SLO bands of all Joose! Its only $3 so I hope to see everyone there.

Cheers!

Sheesh [03 Feb 2006|09:05pm]
Long couple of winter months right?

Feels like it anyhow. Finally sitting down with a Bottle Rockets album, a new micro brew to try, and some time to kill.

Music has been good to me lately. Its been several months since I got to play out though so hopefully i'll be getting back on that particular bus.

Damn......... [10 Nov 2005|05:13am]
It's 5a.m. and i'm still up. And I haven't been drinking either. Too much thinking this evening (morning).

I have sorted out that people would be more into politics if it were run more like sports. We need arenas for ballot counting, we need little flags and T-Shirts for the different parties. We need something to wake up all of the Shee-ple who don't fucking vote! I know it is in fashion to say "All Gov. is corroupt so I don't vote!" but when the state of California just barely holds up "choice rights" there is a problem. Make no mistake about it, if you do not vote you are very guilty of allowing the neo-con death-cult to continue to grow in power. They count on the intellectuals to note that the system is fucked and opt out. They want you to say "Ack! Bugger it!". Then they flood the vote with crazy shit. In Kansas they now are going to teach "Intelligent Design" as a valid line of thinking. Please get involved next year. If you think everything is all dick now please take up arms with the opposition party. If you opt out they win.

Also ,
Alternative-Country is the only alternative and the only country.

Watch Me Fall, If thats Alright [17 Oct 2005|12:42am]
[ music | Uncle Tupelo (Still Feel Gone) ]

So I just finished watching "Loose Change" which is a quasi-documentary about 9-11. Its intent is to say that 9-11 was a hoax or rather a conspiracy by our own government. They go so far as to claim that the phone calls made to people from the planes were faked using voice morphing technology. While I am certainly no fan of our current government I am not so rage filled as to be willing to believe this shit. Not only is their premise poor to begin with but they contradict themselves several times within the documentary. That being said it was an interesting thing to watch for 59 min if only because it helps me reassure my self that I am not some nutso-liberal. I am of the reasonable-liberal wing of the party. Actually I don't know if these cats are even liberals, perhaps just nutso. Oh and the shitty techno running beneath the whole film was so horrifically out of place that it deserves special mention.
